Disorders of the Endocrine System
At Houston Endocrinology Center, we specialize in the evaluation and treatment of diseases caused by endocrine gland dysfunction. By producing, storing and secreting hormones, the endocrine system is responsible for almost every cell, organ, and function of our bodies. The most common disorders associated with endocrinology include type 1 and type 2 diabetes, thyroid diseases such as hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, adrenal dysfunction (Cushing’s disease), osteoporosis, hyperparathyroidism, pituitary insufficiency, androgen deficiency (low testosterone) and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Other uncommon diseases also related to the endocrine system are pheochromocytoma, hyperaldosteronism, and diabetes insipidus. At Houston Endocrinology Center, we strive to offer excellent medical care while ensuring that our patients understand the basis of their illness and all complexities of the treatment plan. Patient satisfaction is our number one goal.
Nutrition and Diabetes Education
Houston Endocrinology Center offers both Nutrition and Diabetes Education. For those who want to lose weight or learn how to eat and look healthier, we provide the following assessments upon initial visit: review of 3-day food diary, review of medical history, review of physical fitness level, nutrition assessment, individualized goal setting, and basic nutrition education based on needs. We also will review goals and progress upon follow-up visits, providing continuous motivation and accountability. Upon request, we will provide grocery store tours and group classes allowing better comprehension through peer development. For those who need diabetes education, we provide not only diet and physical activity education and assessment, but instruct on acute/chronic complications derived from uncontrolled diabetes, meter testing, and medication application. Furthermore, we are certified to train and minister Medtronic, Omnipod, and Animas pumps as well as continuous glucose monitors.
